Our Approach
We are a team of six licensed providers, each with a deep commitment to fostering a genuine therapeutic relationship with our clients. Our diverse team brings a wealth of experience in mental health, specializing in areas such as depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and relationship counseling.
ANIKA ATHMAN, MS, LPCC
Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Anika specializes in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, and grief and loss. She works primarily with late teens (16+) and adults, offering compassionate guidance tailored to each individual’s needs.
Background + Experience: With a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from St. Cloud State University, she is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with over six years of experience at Athman Counseling and more than 12 years of prior work in Child Protection and Child Welfare. Her professional background provides her with a unique perspective and an informed, empathetic approach to therapy. While she is trained in EMDR, Anika emphasizes person-centered and solutions-focused techniques.
Personal Approach: Her counseling style is empathetic, client-centered, and collaborative. She honors where clients are in their journey and supports them in creating meaningful change at their own pace. Anika believes her role is to guide clients as they explore their values, evaluate the impact of their decisions, and work toward authentic, fulfilling living. She is passionate about helping clients during challenging times and believes everyone has the potential to live genuinely when they understand themselves and their worldview.

MARKIE GOHMAN, MA, LPCC, NCC, GC-C
Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Markie works with individuals and couples (ages 15+), focusing on grief and loss, chronic illness, burnout, depression, and caregiver support. She has a particular interest in transitional life stages like retirement, empty-nesting, and preparing for college.
Background + Experience: Markie holds a Master’s in Counseling and Human Services from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2017) and is a Certified Grief Counselor. Licensed in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, she has experience in school-based, outpatient, and private practice settings. Markie is also a Board-Approved Supervisor in Minnesota and has provided trainings and presentations for organizations and communities.
Personal Approach: Markie’s approach is empathetic and eclectic, balancing authenticity and humor with compassionate care. She values the power of storytelling and strives to meet each client where they are in their journey.

BECKY PETERSON-HALL

Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Becky has had the privilege of working in various settings, including community mental health organizations and schools. She has served individuals and families across a wide range of mental health concerns, including:
• Anxiety, performance-based anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
• Trauma, PTSD, medical trauma, and caregivers of children with complex medical conditions
• Grief and loss
• Life transitions, personal development, parenting, employment burnout, and stress management
Through her work, Becky is especially passionate about providing care for those affected by medical trauma, offering support to parents and caregivers navigating the challenges of raising children with complex medical conditions.
Background + Experience: With three years of experience as a Mental Health Therapist, Becky is deeply committed to supporting individuals and families on their journey toward emotional well-being and personal growth. She has worked with diverse populations, including children, individuals, first responders, and families.
She holds a Master’s Degree from Crown College and is pre-licensed to practice in Minnesota. Her training spans several therapeutic approaches, including:

KENDRA STALPES, MS, LPCC
Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Kendra specializes in supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, developing healthy self-esteem and self-compassion, life transitions, career development, healthy relationships, adverse childhood experiences, disability or ability, and parental support. She works with children (ages 8+), adolescents, adults, and families.
Background + Experience: Kendra earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Mankato State University in 2010 and her Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling from St. Cloud State University in 2015. She has been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor since 2018. With over a decade of experience in the mental health field, Kendra’s background includes roles such as Children’s Mental Health Case Manager, CTSS In-Home Skills Provider, Vocational Specialist, and School-Linked Therapist. She uses a strengths-based, person-centered approach incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, and motivational interviewing.
Personal Approach: Kendra brings compassion to every session, adapting her approach to meet each client’s unique needs. She believes therapy is a collaborative process and prioritizes in creating a safe, supportive environment for clients to explore past experiences that have shaped them and work towards creating healthy attachments and work towards becoming the best versions of themselves.

KAYLEE SYLLA, LMFT
Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Kaylee specializes in trauma and dissociation, depression, and working with LGBTQ+ clients. She provides counseling for children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples.
Background + Experience: Kaylee holds a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Cloud State University. Since 2016, she has worked as a psychotherapist, joining Athman Counseling Services in 2021.
Personal Approach: Kaylee employs emotionally focused therapy, narrative therapy, art therapy techniques, DBT, and IFS. She creates a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences and build meaningful connections with themselves and others.

Areas of Specialty/Expertise: Jade focuses on counseling for individuals and couples, addressing anxiety, depression, dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use), and life transitions such as college, parenting, or retirement. She works with teenagers (13+), adults, and couples.
Background + Experience: Jade earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology from St. Cloud State University in 2014 and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2019. With over 10 years of experience in mental health settings, Jade brings expertise from both community mental health and private practice.
Personal Approach: Her approach is person-centered, empathetic, and authentic. Jade values collaboration, meeting clients where they are, and creating individualized goals to support personal growth.
